I had the pleasure of seeing Frank once each in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, but the funny thing is, I got to see him 3X in the 2000s!
At the 1979 show, he was the opener for Uncle Ted - they both had Leber-Krebs Management which he mentions - in New Haven. The crowds there were frightening! The 1988 show at The Ritz in NYC was a free show, announced on the radio. I suppose Frank would rather play at a loss than not to have played at all. When you speak with him next, perhaps you can ask him. Next was Chicago in 1992 at The China Club where the guys in the men’s room were freaking out and comparing that night to a show at Comiskey Park in 1978 (https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/frank-marino-and-mahogany-rush/1978/comiskey-park-chicago-il-5bc59388.html) Check out the full lineup! The last three shows were all fantastic 2005 with Avi, 2008 in an intimate theater on Long Island and the last time at BB King’s in Manhattan playing a Jimi Hendrix set.

The first time I had contact with Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush’s music was more than 40 years ago, in 1978. My first album from Frank is “The Power Of Rock And Roll”, which cover he didn’t approve at all. Since then, he became my number one guitar player, just because he played a lot of guitar solos. But, in the last decade, knowing more about his personality, through tracks like “Since You Came Into My Life” or his immense and painful efforts to finally release this amazing Box Set, I can’t express how much I admire him, as an artist and a human being. That being said, I wish Frank Marino, his family and his band, all the best for many years to come. Best regards from a brazilian music lover.
